Priestland Looking East
The village is now almost a continuation of Darvel, but was once a separate place in a different parish some distance from the town. There was a little shop known as Gracie's and the people of Darvel would walk to it in the evenings and at weekends to sample the Priestland wine otherwise known as "Boston Cream".
As Richard Tarbert puts it in his poem
"The Priestland,"
Her Boston Cream is just A1,
And leaves nae bitter traces,
Its coolin', nice, and no that dear,
Ye get the best at Gracie's.
